well, obviously you couldn't just ruin the whole santa thing for the second graders. Your mom was right though. That teacher should not have told you that in front of the whole class. Your mom wasn't over-reacting. Maybe that teacher had a bad day that she decided to tell you this in front of everyone, but don't worry. Just try to forget about that little incident :)
