We have been living in a duplex for a little over a year and have had nothing but problems since we moved in. We tired getting out of our lease but had to give sixty days notice and didn't know that so we are stuck till April. We found out this past week that our landlord is now renting the place next door to someone who has a pet. We moved here in the first place because it was pet free and my husband is allergic to animals. Is there anything we can do? We really just want out of our lease it's been a horrible mess the whole time we have lived here. Our garage floods and it was promised to be fixed and still hasn't. Also our lease was never notarized and I found case law in Ohio stating that a lease that has an automatic renewal clause like ours has to be signed in front of a notary. Keep a cat in London in a flat with "no pets" clause in head leasehold?

Im not familiar with how it is in London, I live in th US (Virginia). Most all places here for rent dont allow pets either. What I have always done is meet with the landlord and take a tour. If i really like the place, I talk to them earnestly, stating that I have just one cat, who is well trained and has no vices, and that I would be willing to put down extra for a pet deposit. It helps too if you have past references from landlords who can vouch that the cat caused no problems. This of course does not work anywhere there is a Property Management Company because they wont budge, but if it's an independent person, thay may allow the kitty. So here is the deal: I used to clean for this guy. He was a neighbor. One day he told me about how he was learning Spanish. I found out earlier today the cds he gave my mom were recording cds with glued on art-work!! What is the most feasible explanation: that this guy was just plain trashy or that he actually made an honest mistake. The recording cds are clearly not as good of quality as the original and have pretty much no resale value to me. How, after experiences like this am I supposed to do nice things for people with "pure" intentions (ie not to feel like a martyr), and without being taken advantage of? The co. paid my fees during all three years as I continued to pass my exams. shortly before the end of third contract I found another training program somewhere else. After serving one month notice period, I left the organization. Now i am informed that I have to pay all the educational fee the co. paid since inception, i.e from the start of first training period in order to get my relieving certificate and experience certificate. However i feel that as each contract was for one year only, I am bound to refund only the fees that has been paid during the current contract period as I did not breach any of the first two contracts and duly completed without any break or breach. The HR says if I dont refund the amount, there'll be a case of recovery against me for the amount. I have been in my current relationship for a little over five years. My girlfriend is almost thirty while I'm twenty three. We see things differently; some times for the good, most times for the bad. If I were you, I'd confront the landlord and be honest. Mention that they have no place to go and your only option is for you to take them in. Most apartment complexes (actually I think all) charge you extra for having pets in the house. But to be honest I had a cat in my apartment and my landlord or manager of the complex never knew nor found out. I find it the right way to be honest because if the landlord were to find the cat and you never told him/her then that's twice the penalty. Just be honest! :) Good luck!
